At the February 6, 2015, Florida Board of Medicine meeting, James Orr, Jr., M.D., Chairman, along with the members of the Board, honored fellow member Nabil El Sanadi, M.D. for serving as the Board’s Chairman in 2014.  During his tenure, Dr. El Sanadi spearheaded committees to work on telemedicine and office surgery rules while overseeing six board meetings where the Board took disciplinary action against Florida physicians alleged to have violated Florida’s Medical Practice Act. He also worked with the other members to reduce the biennial licensure renewal fee to $250.00 for the 2015 and 2016 licensing biennia.  Dr. El Sanadi remains on the Board and continues his work to protect the citizens of this state.

Dr. Orr also recognized Kyle R. Diamond, a medical student from Florida Atlantic University. Nominated by Dean Bjorkman, Mr. Diamond is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Florida where he received his Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Human Nutrition. In medical school, Mr. Diamond has held numerous leadership positions while conducting research, preparing publications and presentations, and maintaining honors in all completed clinical clerkships.  He also won the Next Generation Scholarship Award from the Florida Vascular Society in 2013 and 2014.

Lastly, Dr. Orr recognized Jason I. Liounakos, a medical student from Florida International University. Nominated by Dean Rock, Mr. Liounakos is currently ranked #1 in his class, and is on track to graduate in April 2015. Prior to entering medical school, Mr. Liounakos graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology from the University of Florida and a Master of Science in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University.  Mr. Liounakos has earned a full tuition scholarship from the North Dade Medical Foundation for his medical school education, and stays busy by conducting research, writing for various publications and giving presentations. In addition, he also serves in several leadership roles. In his spare time, he enjoys aerobics, weight training, and playing soccer.

Both students were recognized because they exemplify the professionalism, moral character, compassion and intellect essential to the future leaders of our medical profession.  Congratulations to both medical students!
